Q: One travels to a city. The distance up to the destination city is less than shar‘ī travel. However, the distance up to his friend's house equals the reqired kilometers for shar‘ī travel. Which distance should be considerd, to the beginning of the destination city or the place within the city to which one wants to go?
A: If he does not want to go to a particular place in the city (rather he wants to travel to the city itself), the distance up to the beginning of very city is considered. While if a particular place is intended, e.g. his friend has invited him to his house/orchard inside the city, the distance to the house/orchard is considered.
