Leader Receives Iranian Citizens and Government Officials on the Eid-al-Fitr

November 04, 2005

The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei received a large group of Iranian citizens and officials of the Islamic Republic on the auspicious occasion of the Eid-al-Fitr (the fast-breaking feast) on Friday, November 4.

In an address to the audience, the Leader described the fast-breaking feast as one of the commonalities of Muslim nations throughout the world and stressed that this auspicious occasion should be used to promote unity among Muslims.

"Today, Muslim nations are experiencing an awakening, and the Islamic Ummah is an undeniable reality of the present world. The raising of the banner of Islam by the Islamic Republic of Iran has infused other Muslim nations with great hopes and aspirations, and, by the favor of Allah, this is going to yield positive results," the Leader pointed out.

Further in his statements, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his gratitude to the Iranian nation and other Muslim nations for their massive and enthusiastic participation in the rallies marking the international Day of Quds, the rallies which once again gave a fresh impetus to the issue of Palestine in the international arena.

"If the usurpers of Palestine and their international supporters have assumed that the issue of Palestine will fall into oblivion, the falsity of this assumption has now been revealed by the resistance and perseverance of the Palestinian nation and the zeal and devotion of Muslim nations to the cause of Palestinians," Ayatollah Khamenei told the gathering.

Further in his statements, the Leader of the Islamic Republic made it clear that the Islamic governments' backing off in the face of arrogant powers will make these powers, especially the arrogant U.S. administration, even more impudent and insolent.

"Despite all their propaganda and ballyhoo, these countries do not wield infinite power and will not be able to achieve their goals if they face resistance on the part of nations. This is corroborated by the fact that the situation in Iraq did not shape up as the occupiers had wished," the Leader noted.

He further stated, "However, as far as the current acts of terrorism in Iraq are concerned, we are deeply suspicious of American and Israeli intelligence services."

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized that the resistance of the Palestinian people and other Muslim nations and their standing up to arrogant and domineering powers will thwart these powers in their goals and objectives.

With regard to the issue of Palestine, the Leader stated, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has often announced its stance on the issue of Palestine and presented a logical solution to this issue. We have suggested that all native Palestinians should be allowed to elect a Palestinian government through a free referendum, and this legitimate government should try at a competent court of justice criminals like Sharon and others who have committed crimes in Palestine."

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that this suggestion and logical solution will be a criterion for judging how truthful those claiming to support democracy and human rights are in their claims.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, also speaking at the meeting, congratulated the Iranian nation and other Muslim nations on the felicitous occasion of the Eid-al-Fitr. He said that the felicity and cheerfulness that is associated with this great occasion is a sign of divine mercy and blessings showering on the servants of Allah.

Putting emphasis on the fact that justice, dignity, peace and a decent life is what all religious and pious people in the world wish for, President Ahmadinejad stated, "Unfortunately, today, most of those who are wielding power in the world do not adhere to the teachings of divine prophets and, while committing homicide and oppression, promoting corruption and plundering the resources of other nations, would not listen to or endure any rightful words."

The Iranian president stressed that the support expressed by the Islamic Republic of Iran for the rights of oppressed nations, especially the Palestinian people, is in conformity with its upholding justice, peace and benevolence toward wronged and oppressed people.

"Contrary to the goals and aspirations of arrogant powers, the world is moving on the path to the realization of justice, and the pious shall ultimately inherit the earth according to divine promises," President Ahmadinejad further stated.
