Playing Dafs in Celebratory Ceremonies

Q.| Is it permissible to play dafs (frame drums) at women-only gatherings, say gatherings held for celebrating festive religious occasions, weddings, etc.?
A.| Playing them in a way that causes one to be distanced from God and from spiritual and moral virtues and to be drawn to sin and degradation is impermissible.  Furthermore, it is not appropriate to play musical instruments on religious occasions and for celebrating the lives of the Prophet and his holy family, even if the music is in line with canonic guidelines and can thus be deemed permissible.  Playing music is inconsistent with the sanctity and holiness of their sacred personages.
