        The Structure of Hajj al-Tamattu‘
         
        Ruling 17: The Hajj al-Tamattu‘ is composed of two distinct acts: The ‘Umrah al-Tamattu‘, and The Hajj al-Tamattu‘. The ‘Umrah al-Tamattu‘ precedes the Hajj al-Tamattu‘, and each consists of its own specific rites, which will be briefly outlined here.
        Ruling 18: The rites of the ‘Umrah al-Tamattu‘ are as follows:
        1. Wearing iḥrām (Hajj pilgrim’s garment) [from a mīqāt];
        2. Performing the ṭawāf around the Holy Ka‘bah;
        3. Offering ṣalāt al-ṭawāf (prayer of the ṭawāf);
        4. Performing sa‘y (jogging or walking fast between the hills (or low mountains) of Safā and Marwah, near Ka‘bah);
        5. Performing taqṣīr (trimming a small quantity of hair or nail).
        Ruling 19: The rites of the Hajj al-Tamattu‘ are as follows:
        1. Entering iḥrām [wearing the dress of Hajj in Makkah al-Mukarramah];
        2. Staying (wuqūf) at ‘Arafāt [from the noon of the ninth of Dhul-Ḥijjah to sunset];
        3. Staying (wuqūf) at al-Mash‘ar al-Ḥarām (Muzdalifah) [on the night before the tenth of Dhul-Ḥijjah to sunrise];
        4. Stoning (ramy) the Jamarāt al-‘Aqabah [on the day of Eid ul-Adha (the tenth of Dhul-Ḥijjah)];
        5. Sacrificing an animal;
        6. Shaving the head (ḥalq) or cutting hair (taqṣīr);
        7. Performing the ṭawāf around the Holy Ka‘bah;
        8. Saying ṣalāt al-ṭawāf (prayer of the ṭawāf);
        9. Performing sa‘y (jogging or walking fast between the hills (or low mountains) of Safā and Marwah, near Ka‘bah);
        10. Performing ṭawāf al-nisā’ (ṭawāf of women);
        11. Offering the prayer of ṭawāf al-nisā’;
        12. Spending the nights (baytūtah[1]) [of the 11th and 12th of Dhul-Hijjah] at Minā;
        13. Stoning the three Jamarāt.
