Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in a message on the occasion of 7 Khordad, the anniversary of the formation of the first parliamentary term, thanked the deputies, especially the honourable Speaker of Parliament, for their efforts in advancing the country.
Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, delivered a message marking the 7th of Khordad, the anniversary of the first parliamentary session. While appreciating the efforts of the representatives in advancing the country, especially the respected Speaker of Parliament, he stated that a true representative of the nation must be among the people and aligned with them. Emphasising the need to preserve the great blessing of national unity and the unparalleled present cohesion, he noted that every self-sacrificing person whose heart beats for Islam and the Revolution, or for Iran’s independence and dignity, must make even greater efforts from now on to safeguard the unity of the nation’s closely joined and cohesive ranks. They should not turn differences into conflict and division, whether these divisions are unjustified or even justified, but rather, by avoiding empty political disputes and the magnification of social differences, they should embody in word and deed the cohesion and unity of the nation.
The text of the Leader's message is as follows:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I extend my congratulations to the entire dear nation of Islamic Iran and the esteemed representatives of the Assembly on the blessed Eid of Qurbān (Eid al-Adha) and the anniversary of the inauguration of the first term of the Islamic Consultative Assembly.
On this occasion, I would like to express my appreciation for the efforts of the representatives, especially the Honourable Speaker of the Assembly, Dr Ghalibaf, in advancing the country.
The Islamic Consultative Assembly is the essence of the nation, the manifestation of religious democracy, and the pillar of law and legislation in the Islamic Republic. It plays a significant role in exercising the will of the people. Now, with three months having passed since the Third Sacred Defence, the mettle and essence of the Iranian people, in faith, hope, and action, have been proven to friend and foe alike, and the elevation of the standing of the Iranian people has brought forth a dazzling manifestation of the distilled virtues of the nation.
Since the true representative of the nation must be from among the people, the current juncture is a turning point for the manifestation of the people’s mission (bi'that). This is founded in the representatives and in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, so that they may align their role and the fulfilment of their responsibility with the level of a nation that is aware of its mission. Through redoubled work and initiative, they should accelerate and deepen legislation and oversight to chart the future of Islamic Iran.
In this field of holy struggle (jihad), the seat of representation is regarded as a frontline trench of transformation on the path to the country's progress. Therefore, the people's representatives should rely on the grace of God Most High. They should seek intercession from our Master and Guardian (may Allah hasten his noble reappearance). They should honour the pure blood of the martyrs of the two American-Zionist imposed wars, foremost among them our great martyred Leader (may his noble station be exalted). They should strive with a jihadi spirit, using all their strength and capacity for synergistic governance in cooperation with the government and other institutions, while maintaining the legislative branch's independence. This should be directed towards worthy national renewal, resolving the people's concerns, especially their economic and livelihood issues, boosting production and employment, raising the level of science and industry, promoting culture and morality, fighting financial corruption, curbing inflation and high prices, and comprehensively alleviating deprivation.
Accordingly, parliamentary legislation must have a direct and tangible connection to the country’s principal issues and the people’s needs, and be oriented toward generating hope and building the country’s future. Society, before anything else, needs to see real signs of hope, a stable path, and a clear horizon for the future so that it can plan and move on that basis.
Through their stances they take, legislation, and speeches, members of Parliament can make the Islamic Consultative Assembly the leading institution for creating hope. For instance, in the current situation, they have to cooperate with the executive and judicial branches. They should also focus on this year’s (1405/2026) slogan: “Resistance Economy in the Shadow of National Unity and National Security.” Their main agenda should include economic stability, reducing inflation, liquidity management, boosting production, amending the Seventh Progress Plan, and adding items related to the renovation and reconstruction of damage caused by the Second and Third Imposed Wars. They should also chart a roadmap for the government and other sectors for both the current situation and the post-war era.
To play a role at the level appropriate for people with a mission, various prerequisites and requirements are needed. In this brief space, I simply recommend that my esteemed brothers and sisters carefully and seriously study the details of the statements of the great martyred Leader (may his noble station be exalted) in his annual meetings with representatives of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, especially in recent years, which hold significant experiential and operational value.
Naturally, observing personal piety plays a fundamental role in ensuring adherence to those guidelines and the correct fulfilment of grave responsibilities in the present sensitive period. Also among these requirements is the correct identification of priorities. They also include views grounded in study and informed by profound expert consultation, a people-centred way of life, and broad public engagement. Other requirements include comprehensive anti-corruption measures, a preference for national interests and public demands over factional, group, and regional needs and interests. They also include attention to parliamentary diplomacy, courage, and the clear and firm declaration of positions in the face of the excesses of the arrogant powers. Finally, they require intelligent and revolutionary awareness of Iran’s new position in the region and the world.
Among the examples of piety is safeguarding the great blessing of national unity and the unparalleled cohesion bestowed upon the nation with a mission, around the flag of Islamic Iran. This is one of the most important factors for its victory over the Great Satan. Gratitude for this blessing requires the effort of the entire nation, especially the intellectual and political elites, including representatives of Parliament, to protect this unity and avoid empty political disputes and the highlighting of social differences.
The enemy’s blind design, after the imposed war, economic pressure, and the political and propaganda siege, is to create discord and social fragmentation to compensate for its defeats on the military field and bring the nation to its knees. It is therefore necessary that every self-sacrificing individual whose heart beats for Islam and the Revolution, or for the independence and honour of Iran, from now on, to strive more than ever to safeguard the unity of the nation's coherent and cohesive ranks, to not turn unjustified, or even justified differences into conflict and division, but rather embody in word and deed the nation's cohesion and integrity, God willing.
I pray for your success in the very weighty duty of representing a worthy nation that stands firm against the oppression and aggression of the savage and vile tyrants of the age, and is guiding history toward its proper course. I hope that the prayer of our Master (may God hasten his noble reappearance) may be a source of support, assistance, and attract divine success for you, dear ones.
Peace be upon you, and the Mercy of God and His blessings.
Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei
