In a message addressed to the fervent and faithful nation of Iran concerning the memorandum of understanding signed between the Presidents of Iran and America, His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, said, “In principle, I held a different opinion. However, because of the commitment that the honourable President, as Chairman of the Supreme National Security Council, gave me on his own behalf and on behalf of the other members to safeguard the rights of the Iranian nation and the Resistance Front, and because he explicitly accepted responsibility for it, I gave my permission. From this moment onward, we, that is, you, the proud nation, and this humble servant will await the fulfilment of the stated conditions.”

The full text of the message from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution addressed to the nation of Iran is as follows:

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful

O passionate and loyal nation of Iran!

As you have been informed, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Presidents of Iran and the United States. In the process leading to this stage, the officials concerned made great efforts out of sincere concern and with good intentions. Of course, it was the American president who, out of desperation, employed various forms of leverage to achieve this.

In principle, I held a different opinion. However, because of the commitment that the honourable President, as Chairman of the Supreme National Security Council, gave me on his own behalf and on behalf of the other members to safeguard the rights of the Iranian nation and the Resistance Front, and because he explicitly accepted responsibility for it, I gave my permission. He has also explicitly stated that if the American side makes excessive demands, they will not submit to them.

From this moment onward, we, that is, you, proud nation and this humble servant, will await the fulfilment of the stated conditions. However, it is obvious that future in-person negotiations will not mean accepting the enemy’s viewpoint.

We hope that the blessed prayers of our Master (aj) will bring all kinds of divine assistance and victories to the honourable nation of Iran.
