First Condition: Intention (Nīyyah) to Perform Ṭawāf

Ruling 345: Ṭawāf is an act of worship that must be performed only to obey Allah, the Almighty, and with the intention (nīyyah) of fulfilling a religious duty. It must be free from showing off (riya’). Therefore, if even some of the rounds are performed without this intention, the ṭawāf is not considered sufficient.
Ruling 346: The intention (nīyyah) of the ṭawāf must specify whether it is for the ‘Umrah al-Mufradah or the ‘Umrah al-Tamattu‘, whether it is for the Ḥajjat ul-Islām (the obligatory Hajj), or a vowed or recommended Hajj. If someone performs it on behalf of another, the intention of his proxy (niyābah) must also be included.
Ruling 347: It is not obligatory for a Hajj pilgrim to verbalize the intention (nīyyah) or pass it through the mind. It is sufficient for him to intend to perform ṭawāf to obey Allah, the Almighty, and fulfill his religious duty.
Ruling 348: It is right that a Hajj pilgrim should maintain humility and presence of heart during ṭawāf, remain engaged in remembrance (dhikr) of Allah, and recite the transmitted supplications (ad‘iya).
        • Second Condition: Purity from Major and Minor Ritual Impurity (Ṭahārah from Ḥadath Akbar and Ḥadath Aṣghar)
