Muwālāt (Maintenance of Continuity) between the Rounds of Ṭawāf

Ruling 371: The obligatory caution (al-iḥtiyāṭ al-wājib) is that there should be customary muwālāt (maintaining continuity) between the rounds of ṭawāf. This means the intervals between the rounds of ṭawāf must not be so long as to take it out of the form of a single ṭawāf. However, interrupting ṭawāf after finishing half (i.e., three and a half rounds) with the intention (nīyyah) of performing a prayer or similar acts is permissible.
Ruling 372: If the obligatory ṭawāf is interrupted after completing half of it for the performance of an obligatory prayer, resuming ṭawāf after the prayer is sufficient and valid. If the interruption occurs before completing half, and a long interval ensues, then the obligatory caution (al-iḥtiyāṭ al-wājib) is that ṭawāf should be performed again from the beginning. However, if the interval is not long, observing the obligatory caution, although commendable, is not obligatory. This ruling applies whether the prayer is performed in congregation or individually, and whether its time is constrained or not.
Ruling 373: Interrupting obligatory ṭawāf is permissible. However, the recommended precaution (al-iḥtiyāṭ al-mustaḥabb) is that obligatory ṭawāf should not be interrupted to the extent that customary muwālāt (maintaining continuity) is disrupted.
