            Doubt Regarding Ṭahārah

Ruling 356: If a Hajj pilgrim doubts his state of purity (ṭahārah), his religious duties are as follows:
            • If he doubts whether he has performed wuḍū’ before ṭawāf, he is obligated to perform wuḍū’.
            • If he is in a state that requires an obligatory ghusl (a major ritual impurity) and doubts whether he has performed it before ṭawāf, he is obligated to perform ghusl.
            • If he has previously performed wuḍū’ and now doubts whether it has been invalidated, he is not obligated to perform wuḍū’ again.
            • If he/she has previously been ritually pure and now doubts whether he/she has entered a state of janābah (major ritual impurity) or ḥayḍ (menstruation), he/she is not obligated to perform ghusl.
            • If he has completed ṭawāf but later doubts whether he has performed it in a state of purity (ṭahārah), his ṭawāf is valid, but he is obligated to obtain ritual purity before performing the prayer of ṭawāf.
            • If he entered ṭawāf in a state of purity (ṭahārah) and, in the course of ṭawāf, doubts whether a ḥadath (whether a minor or major ritual impurity) has occurred (e.g., whether his wuḍū’ was invalidated or not), he should ignore the doubt and assume purity. If, in the course of ṭawāf, he doubts whether he has entered a state of purity (ṭahārah): (a) If he has previously performed wuḍū’, he should ignore the doubt, and the ṭawāf is valid. (b) If he knows he has not performed wuḍū’ or doubts whether he has performed wuḍū’ or not, he is obligated to perform wuḍū’ again and repeat the ṭawāf from the beginning.
            • If he has previously been obligated to perform ghusl and, in the course of ṭawāf, doubts whether he has done so before beginning, he is obligated to immediately exit the mosque, perform ghusl, and start the ṭawāf from the beginning.
